Natural Sciences and STEM Projects: Fifth Graders Explore Space Through Innovation
Fifth-grade students recently showcased their original STEM projects during an integrated open lesson combining Natural Sciences and IT.
Students conducted research on celestial bodies, adapted their findings into age-appropriate texts for 5–6-year-olds, and created digital illustrations to produce an electronic audiobook on the theme of space.
The STEM component brought learning into the physical realm as students built illuminated models of the solar system, incorporating LED lights and assembling functional electrical circuits.
STEM education is a key priority at the Georgian-American School, where young inventors collaborate on ideas and learn to transform concepts into tangible projects. Using the Arduino Uno microcontroller and Tinkercad software, students first design virtual devices before bringing them to life as physical models.
This hands-on approach develops critical thinking, technical skills, and the confidence to innovate.
